Brianna & Dan

Brianna & Dan

Breanna & Dan were married at Villa the Sanctuary, Bali. I've been visiting Bali since I was a kid, and while the place has changed a lot there's still magic there, something very special about the people and the island. I was married there myself 10 years ago, so to be invited to shoot someone else's wedding there a decade later was a wonderful feeling.

The Sanctuary is a special venue, hidden in a forested gorge in a quiet farming community, ten individual bales fit beautifully into the hillside, with a grassy amphitheater at the heart of the resort to serve as an outdoor reception space. Above this space fairy lights strung between palm trees, and above them the stars. Around it a rushing creek and hillsides hung with mist.

Brisbane Wedding Photographer - Emma and Dean

Brisbane Wedding Photographer // Emma & Dean got hitched at the High Church, Brisbane. It was a pretty epic party, with a gritty yet classic vibe going on. Going through the photos in post, I really felt drawn to the black and white edits, so I decided to do a blog post purely in monochrome. Something about the city and the classic style of Emma kept turning me to a contrasty Ilford Pan F+ style look.

Kirthega & Dushan

Kirthega & Dushan

Kirthega & Dushan were married in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was a big, beautiful wedding: three days of ceremonies and rituals, sometimes solemn, other times uplifting and emotional, but always full of life and color. After each day the couple would return to their homes to prepare for the following day, and so it went until they were formally wed.

What follows is just a small slice of their wedding: just a few hours before the first day of formalities. We wandered through Galle Fort in the incredible heat, right up until the sun wilted into the sea.

Wedding Albums

Wedding Albums

I take a lot of pride in my wedding albums. It took me a long time (and a lot of trials and tests and samples) to find a supplier that I was happy with. I finally settled on a small American company called Vision Art.

They make albums the way I like them: using fine art cotton-rag paper & archival inks, and with a range of exceptional cover materials, including print, linen and gorgeous genuine leathers. There is also the option for custom embossing, at no extra.

Aaron & Amanda

Aaron & Amanda

Amanda and I were both born in Simi Valley, a quiet suburban town in Southern California. Our social circles overlapped early on; we attended rival high schools across town and shared common friends but we didn’t become close until well after graduation. In fact, it wasn’t until after college, and just two months before I deployed to Japan as a Naval Officer that I asked Amanda on our first date. So we added 9,000 km of separation to our blooming relationship and watched our fondness grow through letters and emails. An improbable and inconvenient start to romance, I admit, but also a worthwhile trial in trust, love, and commitment that would set the exciting tone for the rest of our dating relationship. After two years of Facetime dates and care packages overseas, Amanda moved to Japan, accepted my hand in marriage, and made 2015 the most rewarding and thrilling year of my life.
