Vows in an open-air chapel, portraits in the lavender rows, and a reception surrounded by a star-lit landscape.

Nicole & Ryan were married at Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavender Farm at Mount Alford, an hour and a bit south-west of Brisbane in the Fassifern Valley. It is one of those venues that does a lot of the work for you — the chapel is an open timber frame with no walls to speak of, so the whole Scenic Rim sits behind the celebrant, and the light moves through it all afternoon.

Nicole got ready with her mum and her bridesmaids in a room full of sheer curtain light, and her dad had a first look in the hallway that set the tone for the rest of the day. After the ceremony we walked the lavender rows and the olive grove while the sun dropped behind the ridge, then everyone sat down to dinner with the mountains through the glass.

There wasn't a dry eye in the house after the speeches and the dancefloor kept on long into the night.
