Ewingsdale Hall weddingsEwingsdale, Byron Bay
Built in 1908, Ewingsdale Hall is a heritage-listed timber community hall on quiet William Flick Lane, under a canopy of enormous Moreton Bay figs. Inside it is simple and honest: white weatherboards, timber floorboards, exposed trusses, big windows and a small stage. Outside, you have the fig-lined lane, the grove behind the hall and the open field, with St Columba's church next door.
It is a true blank canvas rather than a full-service venue, which means you choose your own catering, drinks and styling — more work, and far more freedom.
It is only five kilometres from Byron Bay but feels properly rural. The lane is a dead end with no through traffic and no close neighbours, and there is plenty of parking, so guests get a country wedding without a long trip out of town.

PHOTOGRAPHING a wedding at EWINGSDALE HALL
Warm, relaxed and full of character. The white walls and tall windows keep the hall bright, while the old floorboards, rafters and festoon lights add texture without dictating the look of the wedding. It photographs best when it is allowed to remain what it is — a beautiful old country hall rather than something overly dressed.
The Moreton Bay figs are the defining feature outside. They give scale, deep shade and a sense of history even in the middle of the day, which makes a midday ceremony far easier here than on an open lawn.
The church, the open field and the quieter grove behind the hall add enough variety without taking you away from your guests — everything is within a two-minute walk. William Flick Lane runs right alongside the property — a stunning stretch of road with huge trees overhanging it, and a two-minute detour for something quite different from the hall. After dark, the hall lit from inside against the trees is worth stepping out for.
