Botanica Plantation House sits high within Tropical Fruit World’s 200-acre farm at Duranbah, looking across cane fields, rolling Tweed country and out to Wollumbin. The original 1970s Plantation House is surrounded by broad lawns, palms and mature gardens, with ceremonies either on the front lawn facing the view or in the more sheltered back garden beneath a huge cascading fig. The reception is open-air but covered, with clear walls, an entry bar and separate lounge areas.

The setting feels rural, but it is very easy for guests: about twenty minutes from Gold Coast Airport, ten minutes from the Tweed Coast beaches and around half an hour from Byron Bay. The food is also a genuine part of the venue, with orchard-to-plate menus developed by the Farm & Co team using produce from the surrounding farm.

It is one of the few venues in the region where the view does the work all day — the same long look to Wollumbin sits behind the ceremony, the canapés and dinner.

PHOTOGRAPHING a wedding at BOTANICA

Big, open and unmistakably Tweed. The front lawn gives you the long view to Wollumbin, layers of green hills and wide sky, while the fig garden is softer, shaded and more intimate. Around the house, white fencing, palms and clipped lawns bring a cleaner, more structured look.

The best photographs here usually come from letting the landscape stay broad rather than trying to turn every corner into a portrait spot. As the sun drops, the cane fields and hills take on more depth, and the clear-sided reception space keeps that light and view present into dinner.

The old fig and the covered areas also give the venue useful options in hard sun or unsettled weather — which matters on a property this exposed.
