The Valley Estate weddingsCurrumbin Valley, Gold Coast

Set across nine acres in Currumbin Valley, The Valley Estate brings several quite different spaces together in one property: the red-brick Manor, an intimate chapel, the plant-filled Glasshouse and extensive formal gardens. There are also proper rooms for both sides of the wedding party to get ready — the Sanctuary upstairs in the Manor, and the darker Gentleman's Retreat with leather Chesterfields, vintage records, a pool table and whisky cabinet.

It feels removed from the Gold Coast without actually being difficult to reach. Gold Coast Airport and the southern beaches are close by, so guests can stay near Currumbin or Coolangatta and still have an easy trip into the valley.

The estate hosts one wedding at a time, and buggies move everyone between the chapel, the gardens and the Manor — which in practice means the day runs on your timing rather than the venue's.

PHOTOGRAPHING a wedding at THE VALLEY ESTATE

The Valley Estate is a photographer's dream. The Manor gives you red brick, chandeliers and big arched windows; the Glasshouse gives softer light and greenery; and the Gentleman's Retreat is dark and moody — perfect for a game of pool and a glass of whisky. Outside there are lawns, paths, mature gardens and quiet corners, so a varied gallery doesn't cost you half the afternoon in a car.

The interiors are strong enough that rain doesn't ruin the day photographically. That is rarer than it sounds — most hinterland properties are the grounds and nothing else.

When there's time, a short drive further up Currumbin Creek Road gives us something less manicured: the road, the creek country, the hills behind. Ten minutes out and back is usually all it takes, and it's what puts the valley into the pictures rather than just a garden.
