A French farmhouse estate at the end of a winding country road — stone, colonnades and thirty acres of garden, forty minutes from Byron Bay.

Deux Belettes is a private 30-acre country estate near Alstonville, designed in the language of a French farmhouse or chateau. Stone walls, arched colonnades, pebbled paths, courtyards, established gardens and a long tree-lined driveway make the place feel collected over time rather than simply themed. Weddings unfold across the grounds, with marquee receptions for larger celebrations and separate spaces available for the wedding parties to prepare.

It is hidden at the end of a winding country road, around ten minutes from Alstonville, twenty minutes from Ballina Byron Gateway Airport and forty minutes from Byron Bay. Guests are brought in by coach, which suits the venue: once everyone arrives, the estate feels private, quiet and completely removed from the coast.

How does it photograph?

With a depth and texture that few venues in the region can match. Rough stone, pale render, old timber, arched walkways and narrow courtyards create natural frames everywhere, while the gardens and long driveway keep it from feeling like a stage set. It can look formal and European in one photograph, then unmistakably Northern Rivers in the next.

The architecture is useful throughout the day: colonnades and deep openings provide shade when the light is hard, and the smaller courtyards work beautifully for close portraits. Later, the lawns and tree-lined approaches open out for wider frames. There is so much detail here that the photographs tend to work best with a little restraint, allowing the couple to sit cleanly within the setting rather than trying to use every feature.
